Work Packages
SINFONIA is structured into three Research Lines (RL) that bring together different scientific and creative fields to address the challenges of climate change.
Through 8 Work Packages (WPs), the project combines sustainable agriculture, food innovation, cultural heritage, art, and technology within an integrated and interdisciplinary approach. Each research line brings together several interconnected WPs that operate in a complementary way throughout the project.
RL1 – Soil Health and Sustainable Farming Practices
RL1 focuses on soil health and the development of more resilient and sustainable agricultural practices. The work includes climate-adapted crops, biostimulants, soil monitoring, and regenerative strategies aimed at reducing the environmental impact of agricultural production. The research line also incorporates a strong participatory component, bringing together scientific research, farmers, and local contexts to support the transition towards more sustainable agricultural systems.
WP1
Participatory testing of climate-smart crops
WP1 investigates resilient crops and sustainable agricultural practices to promote soil health and support agri-food systems that are better adapted to climate change.
WP2
Bioinoculants for climate-smart agrifood production
WP2 explores biotechnology-based solutions using microorganisms to improve soil health, enhance crop resilience, and reduce reliance on synthetic fertilisers.
WP3
Resource valorisation and prototype validation
WP3 explores the potential of crops and plant biomass for the development of bio-based materials, sustainable solutions, and innovative applications in food, health, and cultural heritage.
RL2 – Innovative and Sustainable Food Systems
RL2 explores the development of more sustainable, nutritious, and accessible foods based on the crops and resources studied in RL1. The focus includes plant-based products, biomass valorisation, and food innovation oriented towards health, sustainability, and nutritional quality. This research line also investigates dietary habits, consumer acceptance, and food literacy strategies that promote more informed and sustainable choices.
WP4
Development of innovative food products
WP4 develops innovative plant-based foods by exploring sustainable ingredients and resilient crops to create nutritionally balanced, safe solutions tailored to different dietary needs.
WP5
Promoting Plant-Based Food Literacy and Engagement
WP5 explores the relationship between diet, food literacy, and consumer behaviour, promoting public engagement with more sustainable food choices and plant-based solutions.
RL3 – Art, AI and Material Futures
RL3 explores the relationships between art, ecology, cultural heritage, and emerging technologies. Through contemporary artistic practices, artificial intelligence, environmental monitoring, and new bio-based materials, this research line investigates innovative ways of thinking about conservation, artistic creation, and public engagement. It also promotes collaboration between researchers, artists, communities, and cultural institutions, bringing together science, culture, and society.
WP6
Innovation strategies for Outdoor Heritage and Artistic Production
WP6 explores new approaches to heritage conservation, sustainable materials, and artistic creation, combining science, ecology, and contemporary public art practices.
WP7
Climate Monitoring, Predictive AI and Artistic Creation
WP7 combines environmental monitoring, artificial intelligence, and artistic creation to explore new ways of understanding and interpreting the impacts of climate change on heritage and public space.
WP8
Ecological Thought in Media Arts
WP8 explores the relationship between art, ecology, and climate change through contemporary practices in cinema, sound art, and media art, promoting new forms of creation, research, and public engagement.
